Liberty Brewing – Royal Oat Stout | Imperial Stout | 10.1% abv | 330ml bottle
Liberty Brewing Company is a brewery that had humble beginnings in New Plymouth, to now have become one of New Zealand’s most prominent Craft Breweries. Now located in Helensville, West Auckland, Liberty Brewing is headed by Joseph Wood, who is world famous in New Zealand for his “Fuck that’s Good Beer!” social media stardom.
Liberty Brewing’s newest seasonal releases come in the form of their Trilogy Series, which, for 2017 include; High Carb Ale, Royal Oat Stout, and Prohibition Ale. The first two are welcome returns of old releases from the Breweries New Plymouth days (previously available in generous 750ml bottles), while the latter is a new release for the Brewery.
Royal Oat Stout, previously known under the moniker ‘Never Go Back’, is an Imperial Stout weighing in at a hefty 10.1% abv. The packaging on Royal Oat Stout, and the other two Beers in the series is top class. The range looks fantastic.
Pouring an inky, pitch black pour, Royal Oat Stout has a thick tan head, with great lacing. This looks like a Beer that will be big on flavour!
The aroma is dark chocolate and cocoa, with a hint of coffee. I am also picking out a slight ash/smokey aroma too.
Royal Oat Stout warms beautifully, with slight notes of whiskey appearing, and gets better as it comes to room temperature.
This is a rich, smooth, full bodied Imperial Stout that should be on the hit list of all Stout lovers.
Well done to Liberty Brewing on this (re)release. I look forward to trying the remainder of their new Trilogy Series Beers.
